Pete Bottomley Pete started running seriously as a Senior at Oxford Hills High School in 1979 when he joined the track team instead of playing golf! As a walk on at U. Maine Orono, he surprised himself, and everyone else, by finishing 7th in the time trial to become a member of the varsity cross country team. Thirty years later, Pete's focus is still on cross country and he trains each year to prepare for the annual USATF Masters National Cross Country Championships. Pete and his Dirigo teammates represent Maine very well on the National scene having finished 4th, 4th, 2nd, 4th and 4th in the last 5 years. His current goal is to break his OHHS 2 mile record (10:07 set at the age of 17) after he turns 50. According to Pete, the key to health and success in running is to understand how your body works, fuel up with powerful natural nutrition and rest to get stronger. |
