FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH DOES ARC COST?

Tuition: $400 before February 15th. $450 on or after February 15th.

We also ask that you bring a food item to donate- a Google Doc spreadsheet will be sent to all campers for food sign ups as camp approaches.

If for any reason you need to withdraw your camp application, the total application fee less $50 will be returned prior to May 1st. Between May 1st and June 15th, the total application fee less $250.00 will be returned. After June 15th, we will not be able to issue a refund.

Please note that only on-site campers will be eligible for gear.

WHAT TIME IS ARRIVAL/ DEPARTURE?

We kindly request that campers arrive to Mt Desert Narrows Camping Resort (1219 ME-3, Bar Harbor, ME 04609) no earlier than 12:00 p.m, with the welcome meeting starting at 1:00pm.

Departure is at 12 p.m. on Monday, and we ask that you adhere to this time so that the staff may have their wrap-up meeting as scheduled.

In the event that campers drive their own vehicles to camp, we will collect their car keys for the duration of camp, and return them to their owners on Monday.

WHAT IS THE CELLPHONE POLICY AT CAMP?

We would love it if campers could keep their cell phone use to a minimum (or none at all!). We understand if you would like to use your phone to take pictures while at camp, but we hope you will attend in order to enjoy all that Camp and Acadia National Park have to offer.

Please be aware that cell phones have been lost/stolen in the past, and that ARC is not liable for any theft of camper possessions.

The campground does not permit cell phones to be left unattended and charging in the bathrooms.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY AT ARC LIKE?

- Wake up at 7:00 a.m
- Breakfast, pack lunches
- Mid-morning run on the carriage trails
- Lunch and some variety of the ocean or a lake
- Downtime back at camp
- Breakout sessions
- Dinner
- Activity (ultimate frisbee, talent show etc.)
- Campfire (bring your instruments!)
- 10:00 tent check and lights out

WILL CAMPERS GET GEAR?

Yes! We try to change it up every year in order for returning campers to see some new gear over their four years as campers.

CAN I ATTEND CAMP IF I'M INJURED?

We encourage you to contact Kelley about your options ~ (207) 860-0306. In the past, we have had campers aqua jog in the pool, or walk when necessary.

WHAT IF THERE'S A THUNDERSTORM?

There is a Rec hall at the campground, where we will wait out storms if need be.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

Required:

  • One reusable mess kit: plate, bowl, fork, knife, spoon, drinking vessel that can be washed and reused (in an effort for ARC to be more sustainable and produce less waste- this was a huge success during our inaugural year of trying it out last year!).

  • Sleeping bag

  • Pillow

  • Warm clothes

  • Running clothes + shoes

  • Medications

  • Toiletries

  • Rain jacket

  • Shoes other than running shoes

  • Water bottle

  • Beach/bath towel

Optional:

  • Folding chair for the campfire (please have your name on it!)

  • "Thrift Store Formal" outfit (no more than $10 spent at a thrift store, or find some fun stuff in your costume box at home!)

  • Musical instrument for around the fire

  • *Twin* camp pad

  • Bathing suit

  • Dietary snacks (if you have food allergies)

  • Spending money for Bar Harbor

Please do not bring your own tent, Camp will provide!

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH SICKNESS OR INJURY?

We have a doctor at camp during the entire session. We pack ice, med-kits and your child's EpiPen (if they require one) with us on every outing. At least one staff member in each running group carries a cell phone with them on every run.

If there is anything specific we should be aware of (allergies, coming off from injuries/sickness etc.), please include it on your camper registration form.

Parents or guardians will be contacted immediately via the phone number provided if their camper becomes sick or injured.

I'M GLUTEN FREE/

VEGETARIAN/VEGAN

Our locally catered meals include options for each of the above dietary restrictions. If there is a particular food that you'd like to bring to camp due to dietary restrictions, feel free to do that as well.

A meal example from a past camp session:

Seasoned Pulled Chicken Subs with Garbanzo Beans

or Garbanzo Beans with Ray's BBQ Sauce (V, GF)

B&M of Maine Baked Beans (V, GF)

Miso Sesame Coleslaw (V, GF)

Spring Mix Salad with Sunflower Seeds (V, GF)

Frozen Yogurt (GF)

HOW DO TENTING ASSIGNMENTS WORK?

We have found in the past that it is most effective to assign tents based on age groups, and that no two campers from the same school are placed in the same tent.

For example, there may be a tent with 6 15-year-old girls from Presque Isle, Bonney Eagle, Camden, Falmouth, Messalonskee, and Brewer. It's fun to branch out and meet new friends!

ARE THERE HOT SHOWERS AT CAMP?

Yes! The showers are located about 100 feet from our campsite and are free of charge. There will be several times during each day where campers will have the opportunity to shower. Please bring your own towel.
